Ocean Remote Sensing Technologies: High Frequency, Marine and GNSS-Based Radar

In this talk, the research on radar ocean remote sensing using high frequency (HF), X-band marine, and Global Navigation Satellite System Reflectometry (GNSS-R) radars will be introduced. First, the basic principles of HF radar and its applications in oceans current, wind and wave will be explained. Next, the technique of X-band marine will  be illustrated along with its applications in sea surface current measurement, wave information extraction, and wind field mapping. Then, GNSS-R will be shown in terms of sea ice sensing, wave measurement, and wind speed sensing. Finally, some challenges and future directions about these three types of radar will be outlined.
